Hello!

I am so glad you have dropped in!  i am the owner and treating Physical Therapist at Harmony PT and Wellness.  I graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2000 with a master's degree in Physical Therapy. I have worked as an outpatient PT for 22 years treating a variety of pediatric patients with developmental delays as well as adults with spinal pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, lymphedema, partum and post-partum pain, sciatica, orthopedic, and athletic injuries.  I recently attained my Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Health Physical Therapy (CAPP-Pelvic) from the APTA and have been treating pelvic health issues for the past 5 years.  I am a 200-hr Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance and a Certified Health Coach (CHC)  through The National Society of Health Coaches.  I also find the use of lymphatic massage to be of great benefit to my patients, and though I am not certified as a lymphedema therapist, I have completed over 60 hours of specialized training in lymphatic drainage therapy.

"The most useful thing that I can do as a Physical Therapist is to try to discern why a person is having the problem they are having, find a way to explain it to them, and teach them what they can do (or what not to do) to help themselves.  Manual work is essential to give the patient the muscle flexibility and joint motion that they need to be successful with self-treatment and home exercise."

Wellness

I offer private health coaching and yoga instruction currently.  My hope is to provide some group offerings with a focus on pelvic conditions in the near future.  It has been my experience that there is a shortage of group fitness classes that take into account the way the body, the female body in particular, changes with age and babies.  I have found that many of my female patients have experienced worsening pelvic symptoms when participating in cardio, strengthening, and yoga classes over a period of time despite gaining the positive effects of weight loss and increased strength/energy.  Since I have started treating males, I am finding that there are few yoga classes that are geared toward their needs as well.  Stay tuned for information here on future fitness classes, workshops, retreats and community offerings!

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy can be beneficial in increasing mobility and decreasing pain in all areas of the body. Types of manual therapy offered are: myofascial trigger point release, therapeutic massage, joint mobilization, manual cervical traction, manual stretching, lymphatic drainage technique. Modalities will be limited to moist heat to prepare tissues for manual work and cold pack to prevent soreness after manual treatments.  Manual therapy can be a part of your PT plan of care and be billed to your medical insurance or can be completed on an "as needed" basis and paid for privately.

Are you ready to schedule PT?

-Time......We are busy.  We have kids, jobs, homes, projects, and parents who may need us.  Please ask yourself if you have time to complete pelvic therapy and the money to pay for regular visits if you find that your insurance does not cover any or all of the costs.  I complete an evaluation and then weekly visits for a period of at least 4 weeks for 1-hour sessions.  Please see my hours to make sure there is a time slot that will work for you.  Please be aware that it may take 2 weeks to start regular weekly visits once the evaluation is completed.

-Money.....Prior to scheduling, please make sure that you know whether your insurance will cover PT and if so, do you have to meet your deductible before they will help with the costs or not?  This can be found by simply calling your insurance carrier.  I can tell you that Medicare and Medicaid plans normally cover all of the costs of PT but commercial insurance carriers normally only cover a portion of the costs unless you have met your out-of-pocket maximum.  Please see my pricing section on this page for more information about what questions you may want to ask your insurance.

-Commitment.....You will be asked to do specific exercises which may take 15-30 minutes 6 days per week for the first 4-6 weeks.  You may be asked to keep a bowel or bladder diary.  You must be willing to take the time to fully complete your intake paperwork including all demographic, insurance, and contact information prior to the evaluation.

-Cancellations.....You will have to put in a credit card when you schedule as a new patient and you will be charged a $25 late cancellation fee if you fail to cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment or do not show up for the appointment.  You will have an opportunity in your intake paperwork to sign up for a 24-hour appointment reminder.  I never schedule more than 6 patients per day in a 1-hour block, one on one with me, and I take care of all scheduling and billing.  This is a wonderful business plan for knowing what is going on with your business and providing quality health care but a terrible business plan when people cancel on the day of their appointment.  Most days, I am to busy seeing patients to stop and try to fill an empty spot on the schedule when appointments are canceled on the day of the appointment.  I have found that many people find this fee to feel punitive but it is actually just a way to keep the doors open.  So, you will be automatically charged the late cancellation fee regardless of the reason for cancellation and you must be willing to sign a sheet in your intake paperwork and provide a credit card number prior to the evaluation being completed in case that happens.   Medicaid does not allow me to charge their members a late fee so I allow one grace "late cancellation or no-show" but automatically discharge the patient if a second one occurs.

I look forward to meeting you and partnering  with you on your health journey.    Once you request an appointment, I will approve it and send you the intake paperwork via email.  Please be sure to submit each form  when you finish it.   When you arrive at Harmony, please take a seat  and I will be with you shortly.  Please feel free to text  me at (270) 873-7495 to let me know that you have arrived.   YOu may also call the number if you have  additional questions.
